Research: Lived Experiences of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Regarding Anesthesia Provision: A Heuristic Inquiry

This qualitative study explored how CRNAs experience and interpret the process of providing anesthesia. Using interviews with 17 CRNAs and a heuristic inquiry approach, the research identified key themes shaping anesthesia practice, including clinical expertise, vigilance, trust, professional confidence, and personal commitment. The findings suggest that empowerment—or feeling supported versus constrained in practice—strongly influences CRNAs’ attitudes, behaviors, and sense of fulfillment when delivering anesthesia care.
