Mark Haffey is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Avera McKennan Hospital and University
Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He received his anesthesia training at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical
Center Nurse Anesthesia Program including a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of North
Carolina-Greensboro. His Bachelor of Science in Nursing is from Kansas University as well as a Bachelor
of Arts in Biology from MidAmerica Nazarene University. Currently serving in his 23 rd year as a CRNA, his
clinical expertise includes Otolaryngology, Oral/Maxillary Facial, Neuro, Orthopedics, and providing Rural
Anesthesia. Mark is also constantly looking for opportunities to advance and advocate nurse anesthesia
practice. During the COVID Pandemic he served in the ED and ICU of his hospital as part of a specialized
COVID Team.
Mark has served as Region 4 Director and Vice President on the AANA BOD and has served
in many leadership roles at the state level for both Tennessee and South Dakota, and at the national
level. He was recently inducted as a Nurse Anesthesiology Fellow and is currently the chair of the AANA
Leadership Identification Committee. Outside of the OR, Mark serves as a youth sponsor for his church,
which keeps him young at heart. He also loves to serve on Medical Mission teams and has served in the
Ukraine and the Dominican Republic in the last year.
Mark also enjoys spending his free time playing competitive softball, fishing , hunting and scuba diving with his wife Barb, as well as being an AWESOME Dad to his two children Brooklyn(17) and Brett(15) who keep him on the go with Travel Softball, basketball, and golf. He also has an amazing Golden Lab named Oakley.
