A bipartisan resolution was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2026 to recognize the essential role of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in expanding access to anesthesia care. The resolution highlights CRNAs’ long history—over 150 years—as key anesthesia providers and acknowledges their contributions to patient safety, the military, and healthcare systems nationwide.
The announcement coincided with National CRNA Week (Jan. 18–24, 2026), celebrating CRNAs’ training, expertise, and compassionate patient care. Today, more than 75,000 CRNAs provide anesthesia to millions of patients across diverse settings, including hospitals, surgical centers, obstetric units, Veterans Affairs facilities, pain management clinics, and military environments.
Overall, the resolution underscores CRNAs’ critical role in ensuring safe, accessible anesthesia care and recognizes their impact on the U.S. healthcare system.
