The Joint Commission Clarifies that Standards Do Not Restrict or Prohibit the Use of SRNAs/RRNAs in Teaching Cases 

The Joint Commission has released an FAQ, affirming that their standards are not intended to restrict or prohibit students, including student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs/RRNAs), who are enrolled in an approved educational program from participating in the delivery of patient care. AANA requested this FAQ to seek clarification of recent changes and their intended impact.

Research: Lived Experiences of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Regarding Anesthesia Provision: A Heuristic Inquiry

This qualitative study explored how CRNAs experience and interpret the process of providing anesthesia. Using interviews with 17 CRNAs and a heuristic inquiry approach, the research identified key themes shaping anesthesia practice, including clinical expertise, vigilance, trust, professional confidence, and personal commitment. Mississippi Adopts Favorable Rules Concerning OB System of Care

The Mississippi Department of Health has adopted rules concerning Obstetrics (OB) System of Care standards for hospitals. As proposed, the rules primarily included only physician anesthesiologists in provisions concerning anesthesia. New Evidence Supports Pectoral Nerve Blocks in Breast Cancer Surgery

Pectoral (PECS) nerve blocks may offer meaningful benefits for patients undergoing breast cancer surgery, according to a recent systematic review and meta-analysis. The study found PECS blocks were linked to lower postoperative pain, reduced opioid use, and less nausea and vomiting, supporting their role in multimodal recovery strategies.  Read the AANA Journal article
