A PROCLAMATION to honor Certified Registered
Nurse Anesthetists during “CRNA
Week” January 25-31, 2015 in Tennessee
WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists were the first professional group to provide anesthesia in the United States and are the oldest recognized group of advanced practice registered nurse specialists; and
WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are essential to Tennessee’s health care system, having provided high-quality, cost-effective anesthesia care for one hundred and fifty years; and
WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are anesthesia specialists who administer more than thirty-four million anesthetics in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are the sole anesthesia providers in many of Tennessee’s ninety-five counties, providing patients with obstetrical, surgical and trauma stabilization services; and
WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists practice in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered, including traditional hospital surgical suites and obstetrical delivery rooms; critical access hospitals; ambulatory surgical centers; the offices of dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons; and United States military, public health services and veterans administration health care facilities;
NOW, THEREFORE I, Bill Haslam, Governor of the State of Tennessee, do hereby proclaim January 25-31, 2015 as “National CRNA Week” and recognize Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists as outstanding health care professionals who are committed to providing outstanding quality of care in Tennessee.
