The AANA Board of Directors this week revised the association’s position statement on COVID-19 vaccinations in response to the rise of cases driven by the highly contagious Delta variant and lagging vaccination numbers.Â
The new statement recommends that CRNAs, student registered nurse anesthetists, and other healthcare workers be vaccinated to protect their patients, colleagues, families, and themselves. The COVID-19 vaccination is a critical prevention measure to reduce infection spread and mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. AANA encourages healthcare professionals and the public who are not yet vaccinated to educate themselves and review the scientific evidence about the vaccine and its impact on infection prevention, patient care, infection spread, and herd immunity.
